PGA Convention Next Week

We returned from the Atlanta Market last week. Crowds seemed to be down, but bad ice and flight delays may have contributed to the low numbers. We did manage to buy some great new items. Golf Bags & Father's Day

With Father's Day just around the corner, we've had numerous orders and inquiries about the golf bags we stock. We offer bags from two major companies - Team Effort and Datrek. Both companies offer great quality bags.

Datrek is currently in the process of merging with another company and has halted shipment of their products during this transition. Basically, if we don't have the bag in stock, we can't order it from Datrek right now because they're not shipping anything. We know this is bad timing because of Father's Day, but this situation is really out of our control.

Hopefully, Datrek's shipping deparment will be back up and running in the next week. If you see a Datrek product on our website that you're interested it, just send us an email at my_three_golfers@yahoo.com. We can let you know if we have the product in stock, or if we'd have to order it from Datrek for you. If we'd have to order it from Datrek, your order would be delayed for possibly up to two weeks.

In the meantime, we encourage you to check our product listings for Team Effort golf bags. They offer most of the collegiate teams offered by Datrek.

Callaway Introduces the I-MIX!!!

Well...I have returned from the PGA Merchandise show in Orlando and the golf manufacturers have done it again. Just when you thought that they could not come up with anything bigger or better because of limitations initiated by the USGA and the R&A, it is a recent change on their part that has given rise to golf's newest technological advance. A rule was recently changed to allow golfers to play with adjustable clubs. Since Callaway already utilized an interchangeable shaft system for their fitting cart, it made sense for them to market this technology to consumers. Their new I-MIX system lets the consumer basically buy heads (right now limited to the FT-I and the FT-5) and shafts ala carte. The individual heads also come with a special wrench that can be used to lock any shaft that Callaway offers onto the FT-I or FT-5. You also have to buy the shaft from Callaway because it is specially fit with a threaded tip. Callaway is not the only company trying this new technology. Nickent had a interchangeable shaft system at the Show, and rumor has it that Taylor Made and Ping have systems in the works. Both Callaway and Nickent expected March deliveries for their new systems.

Now that I have delivered the facts, I guess I need to let you know my opinion on this new technology. Overall, I think the whole idea of interchanging shafts is a neat idea. I do think, though, there are some issues that only time will tell:

Durability - This is the main issue with me. Will these shaft/head connectors hold up to real play on the course and will it hold up to consumers twisting that wrench? Again, I guess only time will tell.
Cost - Costs for the consumer will definitely be higher for this technology. Callaway already has a high price point with the FT-I and FT-5 ($499 & $425), and this new technology will add approximately $150 - $250 to the price tag (hard to estimate because of the difference in shaft prices). Taylor Made's system (which is to include an R7 head, two top level shafts, and extra weights) is rumored to have a $999.99 price tag. I don't think this is as big an issue as other people do. I wholeheartedly believe that, if the technology is sound, there are some golfers that will buy it. This, in turn, leads to a trickle down effect. In a year or so, prices will fall to allow more golfers to try this technology.
Golf Industry - Will this new technology put clubfitters and/or club repair businesses out in the cold? I don't think so. For one thing, many traditional golfers will not trust this technology and the price will keep the majority of golfers (whether they want to or not) away from this new technology. It is, though, a hot topic on some clubfitting blogs that I have read recently. Most clubfitters on these blogs are not big fans of the interchangeable shaft technology. I guess, again, only time will tell.

Lazy No More!

We have to admit, we were lazy during the holidays. In order to enjoy time with family, we were pretty much useless after about December 15. It was great; however, we're now back, rested and ready for a successful 2008.

We just returned from the International Gift Market in Atlanta. If you know anything about this event, it is fun, exhausting, and overwhelming. It is always great to go, shop, and find great items for our customers, but it is a fast and furious weekend event for us. Luckily, while in Atlanta, we were able to spend a weekend with our friends, Rhonda and John (which is always great), so it was a fun, productive weekend for us.

On Wednesday, we travel to Orlando for the PGA show. This is the premier event in the golf industry and an excellent opportunity to view new clubs, gadgets, and must-have merchandise for golfers everywhere. We have a lot of new items to take a peek at, so we hope to showcase some of these in the coming weeks.

Our purchases from the Atlanta market will be added to our website within the next 2 weeks. If you haven't already signed-up for our mailing list, please make sure to do that. It is the best way to find out about our new product listings.

Summertime is So Close!

Summer is almost here...thank goodness! Our children get out of school in 1 week, and they are busting at the seams! I see a front yard lemonade stand in our future!

It's hard to believe that Spring is in full swing. Our city is gearing up for its annual Rose Festival, and we are all abuzz getting ready for it. During this event, we host an annual golf tournament. It's a two-day event that gives locals a chance to compete with one another and out of town visitors a chance to enjoy our great course...hopefully creating a win-win situation for everyone involved.

Spring Time in Georgia - The Masters!!

Well, with today being the first day of spring and me being a golf pro in Georgia, I guess I should talk about The Masters in today's blog. This year's tournament is a little earlier in April (April 5th - 8th) than it normally is. If you have never been there, it is probably the best looking golf course I have ever seen. Television (even HDTV!) does not do this place justice. Every truly serious golfer should try and get to The Masters at least once in his or her lifetime.

Enough about how pretty the place is...let's talk about who is going to win. Now, I am not much of a prognosticator normally, but I will give it a shot here. First, let's take out Tiger, Phil, and Vijay. It's too easy to say one of these guys will win. Let's look at some other players who I think have a good chance to win:

Retief Goosen - Plays and looks a lot like Ernie Els. His calm demeanor and patience serve him well on Augusta's tough greens. Since 2003, Goosen has finished no worse than 13th with two top five finishes. I look for him to be right there on Sunday.
Chris DiMarco - Missed the cut in 2006, but don't forget that he lost to Tiger in a playoff in 2005. He also has three top 12 finishes in the four years before that (the only year he didn't fininsh in the top 12 was 2003, when he had to withdraw after one day of play). Can he handle the pressure coming down the stretch? He could not in 2005, but I think he is capable of winning a major, and he plays well at Augusta.
Stewart Cink - Probably a real sleeper here, but he did play well last year (finished 10th). Southern boy who played down the road at Georgia Tech, so he has some knowledge of Georgia golf courses in the Spring.

We've Started a Blog!

We have finally entered the world of blogging! This is all new to us but we decided it was another avenue of communication for us...so here we are!

What's new at My Three Golfers? Well, we hope a lot. We've just received another shipment of MLB Titleist hats, just in time for baseball season. These hats are also great for golfers. So far, we have Braves, Cubs, Yankees, Tigers, Phillies, and Red Sox. Other teams are expected soon, so keep checking our store.

We've also started a new feature on our website. You can sign up for our email newsletter, which we hope to use to notify you of store promotions, new products, etc, etc, etc. Just wanted to keep you updated on everything we have to offer.
